Larry Dee Doyle Ritter, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Hobart, Oklahoma, at the age of Sixty three . Born on May 2, 1961, in Canyon City, Colorado, to Billy Lee Ritter and Hazel (Kelso) Ritter, Larry lived a life marked by creativity, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.
Larry spent his early years in Colorado before his family moved to Pueblo following the passing of his maternal grandmother, Elsie Kelso. In 1966, the family settled in Mangum, Oklahoma, where Larry attended school and grew into a man of many talents. From a young age, he enjoyed fishing and working with his hands. He had a natural gift for drawing and became a self-taught woodcarver, embracing both the artistry and the mess that came with it.
Larry built a career that reflected his strong work ethic and mechanical aptitude. He began working in the oil fields before joining Mangum John Deere. Later, he worked alongside Butch Mosley as a mechanic, eventually taking over the shop after Butch’s retirement. Larry continued his work until a stroke prevented him from doing so, but his dedication to his craft left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Known for his generosity and big heart, Larry often took children under his wing, offering guidance and support. He especially cherished his time with Taylor Jade Ritter, who held a special place in his life. Larry valued the time he spent with friends and family, always ready with a story, a laugh, or a helping hand.
Larry lived life on his own terms, embracing every moment with passion and authenticity. His creativity, kindness, and love for those around him will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Larry’s legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and memories he created.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Hazel Ritter, as well as several uncles, aunts, and close friends. He is survived by his brother, Billy Lynn Ritter, and wife Nancy; sisters, Joetta Testerman and husband Dwight, and Jodi Ritter; nephews Casey Ritter and wife Stephanie, Jason Hulsey, Brannon Testerman, Ethan Leal, Aaron Leal, and Derek Powell; nieces Chandy Belcher, Jamie Lovette and husband Ruben, Hannah Leal, Madily Sheward, and Kristin Powell; numerous great-nieces and nephews; many cousins; uncle Skipper Ray Ritter and wife Peggy; and aunt Debbie Ritter.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. March 1, 2025, at Light House Church with Pastor Shaun Laughlin officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
