Obituary for Laverne "Pete" L. Fessenden
Funeral Services for Laverne "Pete" L. Fessenden, age 90, have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28th, 1998, at the First Methodist Church of Olustee. Bill Osborne and Rev. Don Harrold will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Olustee Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Pete was born July 7, 1907, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Sidney and Emily (Leonard) Fessenden. He moved to Olustee, Jackson County area as a child. As a young man, he worked for the ASCS office. He farmed in the Olustee area most of his life.
Mr. Fessenden was a long time member of the Olustee Methodist Church, the Olustee School Board for many years and a 50-year Mason. He was a founding member and Secretary of the Olustee Housing Development, which was instrumental in the future of the Olustee school.
On November 1, 1927, he and Laveria Spiva were united in marriage at Olustee, Oklahoma. Laveria preceded him in death March 22, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Pete was a loving, devoted father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by many friends and relatives. The family suggests that memorials can be made in Pete Fessenden's name to the Olustee Methodist Church.
Pete is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marion and Gerald Murphey, Kay and Dale Bilbrey of Olustee, Oklahoma and Debra and John Borders of Altus, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Shelia Jones, Patti Hook, April Preston and Curtis Cotner; and by four great-grandchildren, Clayton Jones, Byron Hook, Kristin McCullough and Connor Preston; and by many other friends and relatives including a nephew, Tommy Spiva of Esparto, CA.
