Lawrence Calhoon "L. C." Pepper passed away on Saturday, August 30, 1997 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma at the age of 90.

He was born on September 27, 1906 in Moody, Texas to James B. and Mary (Foster) Pepper.

The family came to Jackson County in the early 1900's by covered wagon and settled in the Martha area. He attended Martha and Midway Schools.

As a young man he farmed and then later was employed at Altus Air Force Base during World War II,.

He and Ruby Hullum were married in Altus, Oklahoma, on August s16, 1941. Lawrence and Ruby and his two new sons, Travis and Ronald Hullum, settled in Blair, where later their daughter, Mary Kay was born.

In 1947, Lawrence and Curtis Hawkins of Martha formed a partnership and purchased the Zinn Brothers Feed and Seed, changing the name to Blair Valley Feed and Seed Co. He managed this business, along with the Kimbell Grain Elevator, for 14 years.

During his years as a business man he served on the Blair City Council, acting as Mayor during part of his tenure. He was also a member of the Blair Lions Club and a volunteer fireman for the city. Lawrence served on the Board of Education of the Blair School District and was a longtime member of the Blair First Baptist Church.

In his younger years, one of his favorite past times was being a member of the Blair Riding Club.

Lawrence was later employed by the Jackson County Commissioners as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1973.

After his retirement he and Ruby spent their time enjoying their home, children, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby, and children; Sons, Ronald Hullum and wife Bea of Odessa, Texas and Travis Hullum and wife Myrna of Waynesboro, Georgia; and Daughter, Mary Kay Foshee and husband Don of Blair.

His grandchildren include: Kyle and Charlotte Foshee and Craig Foshee of Blair; Ronda and Lanny Mullins of Mesquite, Texas; Marnie Neves of Odessa, Texas; Mike and Billie Hullum
of Grovetown, Georgia; Mark and Martha Hullum of Augusta, Georgia; Julie Hullum of Augusta, Georgia; Nathan Ford of Gulf Port, Mississippi, and Dana Ford of Waynesboro, Georgia.

He was further blessed with four great-grandchildren, L. C. Gage Foshee of Blair; Ethan Neves of Odessa, Texas; and Mike and Mallorie Hullum of Grovetown, Georgia.l

He is also survived by two brothers J. T. Pepper and wife Reba of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Luther Pepper and wife Opal of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father; Sisters, Grace and Mary; Brother, Clarence; and one grandson Mitch Hullum.

He leaves behind many lifelong friends and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 1, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Blair, Oklahoma with Randy Mitchell and Lanny Mullins officiating. Interment will be at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
