Obituary for Leta Icie Brown
Leta Icie (Gray) Brown, age 85, died Wednesday, June 4th, 1986, in the afternoon at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning at the Lowell Memorial Chapel with the Reverend T. O. Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown was born at Victory Community, Oklahoma on February 6th, 1901. Her parents were Jim and Mattie Gray who homesteaded at Victory on Thanksgiving Day of 1888. Mrs. Brown graduated from Altus High School in 1919, married Albert Biswell and lived in New Orleans, LA for one year before moving to Oklahoma City to attend drama school. Soon after graduating from Oklahoma City University in 1927, they moved to San Francisco, CA. In 1934, her husband, Albert died and in 1944 she married Harold Atwood Brown who passed away in 1953. In 1958 she returned to her home state of Oklahoma. After living in Tipton, OK for 12 years, she retired in Altus in 1970 where she made her home until her death.
She is survived by: one sister, Vera Jeitz of Altus, Oklahoma; three nephews, Dr. Dale J. Austin of Dallas, TX, Judge Russell D. Austin of Andrews, TX and Dr. Stanley G. Childers of Pueblo, CO; three nieces, Mrs. Lois Griffin of Sweetwater, TX, Mrs. Billie Joy Owens of Burkburnett, TX and Mrs. Marie Haralson of Houston, TX.
