Obituary for Lloyd Harold English
Lloyd Harold English, 97 of Altus died June &, 2001 at his home. He was born April 29, 1904 in Whitesbors, TX to James Lee and Wilma Alice English. He attended Oklahoma A&M University in 1922, 23, and 24, when he dropped out for Health reasons. While at A&M he wrestled under coach Gallagher. He returned to A&M and received his BS in 1937 and his MS in 1942. From 1932 to 1954 he was a teacher, principal superintendent at Friendship Schools. During that time he taught the seventh grade, bookkeeping, accounting and typing and coached the senior play. He also coached boys and girls basketball, baseball, tennis and track. He farmed for many years on the family farm six miles east of Altus.
He served as the treasurer, bookkeepper and manager of the Elks Club from 1954 to 1989, when he retired at age 85. He was active in civic affairs, serving on the Board of Red Cross and the Salvation Army. he was a member of the Kiwanis Club. His membership in the First Baptist Church of Altus Spans over 90 years.
He married Mildred Owene Carter in 1928, and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2000, after over 71 years of marriage. He also was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cletus Johnson Porter, a brother Glen and a sister Mildred Grace English. He is survived by his daughter, Jan L. Warner and her husband, Clarence, of Norman; his son, Lloyd C. (Butch) and his wife, Phyllis K. of
Altus, three grandchildren, Kevin B. Lane, his wife Martha and three sons, Lance, Grant and Alex of Norman, Debbie English, of Norman and Kevin R. English and his wife Amber, of Moore; several nieces and nephews, and many students and friends.
Severices are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Keith Wigingon officiating. Burial will be at the Altus Cemetery, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Directors.
Family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Tuesday, June 12, 2001 from 6 to 8 pm.
