Obituary for Lorenzo S. Lankford
L.S. Lankford was born November 29, 1909 at Headrick, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Ira Stanton and Gracie Cox Lankford. He died August 15, 1999 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. L. S. married his wife Wanda April 12, 1947 at Vernon, Texas. They made heir home in Martha, Oklahoma before moving to Blair, where they ran a dairy for many years. L. S. moved to Altus in 1965 where he worked for the City of Altus until his retirement. L. S. served in the U S Army during World War II, where he fought in the Phillipines. He was awarded the Purple Heart and several other accomidations for valor during his tour of duty. L. S. was an avid sportsman and encourged young people to participate in the many sports programs the City of Altus had to offer. He was a member of the Martha First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Wanda Lankford of Altus, Oklahoma; three children, Bonita Etherdige Babione and Ron Babione of Altus, Larry and Judy Lankford of Snyder, Oklahoma; Arnold and Donna Lankford of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother Kenneth amd Mary Jo Lankford of Vernon, Texas; six grandchildren, Melissa and Roger Neal, Duane Lankford, Crystal Hall, Kolby and Kristofer Lankford, two great grandchildren, Taylor and Jake Neal.

L.S. was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Services are scheduled for 2pm Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Bill Milam officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
