Louise Fern Green (nee Albaugh) passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 on what would have been her mother"s 116th birthday. Louise was born the eldest of seven children to Floyd Willis and Nina Blanch (Woods) Albaugh of Ankeny, Iowa on December 30, 1919. Raised in a close-knit family on a farm in Elkhart, she graduated high school from Ankeny Consolidated Schools in 1938. She met Joseph Ellyson Green through friends and was married June 27, 1942. During WW II Joe was in the Army Air Corp, where they were stationed in Gila Bend, Arizona. In the 50"s, after several years in Des Moines, Louise and Joe, a jeweler and watchmaker, left the green farmland of Iowa to buy a jewelry store in Altus, Oklahoma.
It was in Altus that Joe and Louise built a thriving business and family. Joe and Louise ran Green"s Jewelry for 40 years while raising 3 sons. In addition, Louise opened the Card Barn Hallmark store and later ran J & L Jewelry and Watch Repair along with Joe. She was active in her church and community as a member of The First Methodist Church serving in the Women"s Circle as well as the church board, the Altus Literary Club, and the Salvation Army Board. Louise was also honored as Mother of Year by the Altus Kiwanis Club.
Louise was at Joe"s side as a devoted wife and business partner for 56 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother as well as a dedicated homemaker. She loved baking pies, antiques and spending her later winters in sunny Arizona. As a Ms. Wellington Retirement Center Pageant Contestant, her many votes from enthusiastic family members and friends crashed the website. She was a beautiful woman with a warm spirit who loved to make people laugh. She was happiest when surrounded by her large extended family and to the end of her life still considered herself an Iowa farm girl.
Louise was the beloved mother of three sons, Alan Green (Cindy) of Oklahoma City, Stephen Green (Barbara) of Edmond and David Green (Deby) of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a devoted grandmother to Rebecca, Matthew, Stephanie, Aaron, Dustin and Austin and a great- grandmother to nine. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Joe, as well as her brothers Kenneth, Noel, Dean, Donald and Larry Albaugh, sister-in-law Nadine Albaugh and brother-in-law Dale Owen. She is survived by her sister Maxine Owen, sisters-in-law Evelyn, Lorna and Janet Albaugh and Judi Albaugh Burch, daughter-in-law, MarySue Green and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
Funeral services for Louise Green will be on Monday, July 18, 2016, at Quail Springs United Methodist Church, in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be at the Altus City Cemetery on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Altus City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
