Obituary for Ludolf Reginald Kuhnell, III
Ludolf Reginald Kuhnell III, Colonel, USAF Retired, age 78, of Altus and precious husband of Pamela, went to be with his Lord on Friday, 24 December 2010, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Ludolf was born 13 August 1932, in Dallas, Texas, to Ludolf Reginald Kuhnell, Jr. and Claudia (Davis) Kuhnell. At the age of sixteen, he joined the United States Army where he was stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia. He then left the Army to attend Texas A & M University and North Texas University. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and received his basic pilot training at Hondo Field, Texas, and was later stationed as an instructor pilot at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma and Mather Air Force Base, California. After years of flying, Ludolf subsequently graduated from Southern Methodist University Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor Degree and served as an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas. Returning to his first love of military service, Ludolf rejoined the Air Force as a member of the Judge Advocate General"s Corps (JAG) and served as JAG at Homestead Air Force Base, Florida, Misawa Air Base, Japan, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, Washington, D.C., Ankara, Turkey, and Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas, where he retired from the Air Force with some 33 years of service. In Austin, he worked for the Texas Youth Commission. Ludolf"s many military honors included the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, and selection for and graduation from the National War College in Washington, D.C.
Ludolf married Pam Nunley on April 25, 1970, in Dallas. They moved back to Altus ten years ago, and Ludolf flew for Civil Air Patrol in recent years. He also served as a mediator for several local judges and was a Legal Aid Services Board Member, and Salvation Army Board Member. He was a member of Rotary and First Baptist Church in Altus.
Ludolf is survived by his wife, Pam Kuhnell and extended family, comrades, and friends. Ludolf loved and served his country, the United States Air Force, and his comrades with great honor, dedication, and integrity. He was an honorable man and beloved and respected leader.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 28 December 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, 29 December 2010 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, just north of Lawton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
