SCOTT
Luvena Lee "Mickey" Scott passed away Saturday evening, March 19, 2011, in Mangum, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 6 months. Luvena was born on September 10, 1921 near Buffalo, OK to Edgar McKinley Harper and Alice Lucille (Baker) Harper. She attended the Buffalo schools and graduated in 1939. While attending college at Alva, OK, Luvena met her future husband, a young man from Gould, OK, Leland C. Scott. They were married on January 1, 1943 and moved to Wichita, Kansas to be near the aviation industry.
The Scott family lived in Altus in the forties and managed the Altus airport. Moving to Mangum in the late forties, the family lived in a small house at the Mangum airport and served as managers until they moved to the farm northeast of Mangum. The Scotts may be best remembered as operators of Scotty's Dusting and Flying Service which Scotty and Mickey owned until 1986. Mickey was able to capably manage the many men of the business--pilots, ground crew, farmers, sons and Scotty in her sweet and calm way.
A quiet, intelligent and thoughtful person, Mickey was dearly loved by family and friends. She enjoyed quilting and needlework of all kinds. She shared her love for books and reading with the children of the family. Enjoying the outdoors, Mickey grew many impressive vegetable gardens and maintained a nice yard. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Earl Harper, she was widowed in 1988. Family members left to honor her include three sons and their wives: Larry and JoAnna Scott of Duke, Oklahoma, Mac and Sharon Scott of Poplarville, Mississippi, and Tony and Brenda Scott of Mangum. Mickey's five grandchildren are Clint Scott of Poplarville, Mississippi, Dean and Michelle (Scott) Goss of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Darran and Sonya Scott of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Andy and Ellen Scott of Mangum, Oklahoma and Allison Scott of Norman, Oklahoma. Her five great-grandchildren are Briana Goss and Caden Goss, both of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Natalie Scott of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Kennon Scott of Covington, Louisiana and Olivia Scott of Poplarville, Mississippi.
Funeral services for Luvena "Mickey" Scott will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel, in Mangum. The family will greet friends for a visitation at the Greer Chapel at 9 a.m. before the funeral service.
