Obituary for Mae Ola Stewart
Mae Ola Stewart (Moore) was born on April, 21, 1921 in the small community of Herring, about 10 miles east of Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Her parents, Howard W. Moore and Altus M. Moore lived and worked on a farm in that area. They later relocated to Erick, Oklahoma where Mae Ola's sister, Imogene, was born. Mae Ola attended school in Erick where she met her future husband, W. D. (Dub) Stewart. After high school, they were married in Sayre, Oklahoma on June 8, 1941, a marriage that lasted 57 years until Dub's death in 1998. One son, Robert Wayne Stewart, was born to them in 1947. Mae Ola passed from this life on February 11, 2021 at the age of 99 years and 297 days.

Mae Ola and Dub lived in various locations around the state of Oklahoma, but found their way to Hollis in 1955 where they lived and worked until their deaths. Mae Ola began working for Hill's Department Store in Hollis, but soon moved to the Lone Star Gas Company where she worked until her retirement in 1973. Following retirement, Mae Ola and Dub spent many years traveling around the United States as well as around the world. Several trips were made at the behest of the Church of Christ in Hollis where they were stalwart members. These trips included several to Canada and even to China - one of Mae Ola's favorite trip memories. They also toured the United State; many times preparing the itinerary of their vacations based on the upcoming baseball schedules. She and Dub were avid baseball fans and were able to visit every major league ballpark in the nation.

Mae Ola loved to sing and sew. She was active in singing in church and in special groups for weddings and funerals. She also became quite proficient in sewing, quilting, and monograming. For about 15 years, every graduating senior from Hollis High School received a monogramed bath towel for their use.
Mae Ola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dub, and by her sister, Imogene. She is survived by her only child, Dr. R. Wayne Stewart and his wife, Elaina. She is also survived by three grandchildren, April Hunt and her husband, Bill, in Perkins, Oklahoma; Chad Stewart and his wife, Jerri, in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and, Anna Mae Stewart-Gherna and her husband, Chris, in Yarbrough (Goodwell), Oklahoma. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Bodie Dalton Hunt, Liam Wayne Stewart, and Guinevere Geneveve (GG) Gherna. Mae Ola was especially proud that all three of her grandchildren received college degrees, something she was unable to achieve. She is also survived by two nieces, Darlene Arrington and Claudia Bettis and their families. In addition, Mae Ola is leaving behind cherished friends, Charles and Jane Ann Locklear, along with many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
