BRIONES

Manuela Rivera Briones, better known as “Nellie”, has taken on new and glorious life in the kingdom of the Lord. Nellie passed away Monday afternoon, May 29, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Nellie was born in Socorro, Texas on April 27, 1954, to Manuel and Maria (Rodriguez) Rivera. Many who knew Nellie will remember her laughter and unmatched love. She had a way of taking any one in and making them feel a part of the family. Her heart was so open and giving it would inspire others to pass on joy. Nellie was a religious woman and attended the Latino First Baptist Church. Her love and heart could only be explained by the strong faith she had in God. Nellie was a caregiver, she worked many years as a CNA in the Hospice and Home Health field. She never sat still, always doing for others and caring for everyone else and never asking or expecting anything in return. It was as if she didn’t know how to be selfish; if someone needed help she jumped right in with no questions asked. The neat thing was that she always made it fun; helping was a privilege and all involved couldn’t help but enjoy themselves no matter what she wrangled us into doing.

Nellie was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and so much more. She loved her grandchildren to the moon and back. If her babies had something going on she was there, maybe a little behind schedule, but always there. As a mother, no one could compare; she taught us family values, ethics, to fight for what we believe in and to stand up for ourselves, but above all she showed us to love. She knew that love is God and God is love, and the more love you gave the closer to the Lord you would be.

On earth and in heaven she remains to be the loving wife of Jose Cresencio Briones, better known as “Chris”. The two lovebirds met in their early 20’s while working at a chicken factory in Arkansas. Nellie couldn’t get rid of him so she decided to marry him, and together they raised six children. The bond between her and her husband has been one of the most beautiful and truest marriages I have ever seen.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents; Manuel and Maria Rivera; and her brother, Carlos Rivera. She is survived by the love of her life, Jose Cresencio Briones; six children: George Gonzalez, Delilah Centeno and husband Frank Centeno, Chris Briones Jr. and wife Marcia Briones, Priscilla Briones, Mary Walker and husband Trey Walker, and Vivian Briones and fiance Derris Freeman; eleven grandchildren: Italia Centeno, Micaela Gonzalez, Noah Briones, Mateo Gonzalez, “Chito” Jose Centeno, Haley Briones, Deysi Walker, Taylor Wilmes, Santiago Guerrero, Samydah Guerrero, and Wyatt Walker; two siblings: Juan Rivera, and Mela Rodriguez; and many other family members and friends.

Manuela Briones, you will be missed and cherished but never forgotten. We know you’re smiling down on us all.
