Obituary for Margaret J. Bates
Funeral services for Margaret J. (Baumann) Bates 72, of Quartz Mountain will be at 2:00pm Friday, September 8, at the Lowell-Tims funeral Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Mrs. Bates passed away September 5 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Bates was born December 20, 1922 in Altus to John Frederick and Minnie Baumann. She grew up in Altus, graduating from Altus High School in 1940. She attended Halstead Nursing School and became a Registered Nurse in 1943. She married J.A. "Jack" Bates on January 13, 1946. Mrs. Bates worked as an R.N. at the old Altus Hospital, Jackson County Memorial Hospital, and Altus Air Force Base Hospital. She was a Certified Nurse Practitioner and retired from the Base Hospital in 1987. Mrs. Bates was an avid golfer, gardener and wildlife enthusiast who love the outdoor life.

Mrs. Bates is survived by her children; Joe Bates and wife Debbie of Altus, Oklahoma; John Bates and wife Margaret of Altus, Oklahoma; Susan Bates Ward and husband George of Lawton, Oklahoma; Sandra "Sass" Maroul and husband Johnnie of Benbrook, Texas; Sherry Adams and husband Jerry of Wamsutter, Wy; sister Lela Sherwood and Joe of Wichita, Kansas sixteen grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, J.A."Jack" Bates on 7-25-84, three brothers; Bill, Bob, and John Baumann, 1 sister Hazel Keller, and parents.
