LONG

Marjorie Long, age 84, passed away Sunday evening, January 23, 2011, while surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Long was born on October 15, 1926, in southwest Jackson County, near Harmony, to James Ford and Ruth Frances (Maberry) Thrash. While attending Harmony School, it burned, and the family moved to Altus where she graduated from Altus High School in 1945. On June 23, 1945, she married Ruben Baty Long, in Altus, and they spent the next sixty-five wonderful years together. Marjorie spent many years at home, as a homemaker, raising their children. An excellent seamstress, Marjorie made all of her children"s clothes, most of them not having store bought garments until late in life. Every member of her family received a homemade quilt pieced together by her love. Cooking and canning were two of her fabulous traits that were enjoyed by all of her family and friends. A long-time member of the Church of Christ, Marjorie taught elementary Bible Classes at Elm and Hudson and when the stairs became too much for her to climb, she placed membership at Thomas Street Church of Christ, now Tamarack Road. Her family was her life. Her children and grandchildren could always count on her being in attendance at their activities, cheering them on in their efforts. For over twenty years, she provided care to the patients at Jackson County Memorial Hospital as a nurse and later as a unit secretary. Most important of all, she provided the example of a Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmie Thrash, she is survived by her husband, Ruben, of sixty-five years; six children, Mary Frances Tolliver and partner Keith Birmingham of Altus, Eddie Long and wife Pamela of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kevin Long of Oklahoma City, Donna Henry and husband Jerry Don of Mangum, Debora New and husband Kevin of Altus and Dennie Christian and husband Whitney of Granite; fifteen grandchildren, Daphne Hoogmoed and husband Sander of The Netherlands, Ron Tolliver of Amarillo, Casey Tolliver and wife Lisa of Amarillo, Nicholas Long of Wichita Falls, Tammy Salmon of Wichita Falls, Kerri Henry of Edmond, Jaimie Henry of Weatherford, Kadi Henry of Mangum, Dustin Fixico and wife Melissa of Oklahoma City, Brandi Adams and husband Daniel of Altus, Brittani Thibodeaux and husband Mike of Buda, Texas, Kelsey Christian of Granite, Whitlee Christian of Granite, Grant Ruben Christian of Granite and Keaton Crow Christian of Granite; nine great grandchildren, J.L.
