Obituary for Mark Houston Ford
Mark Houston Ford passed away peacefully from this earth on December 18, 2022, in Oklahoma City. Born July 1, 1941, Mark grew up in Granite and Tulsa, OK, and was educated at Southern Methodist University where he pledged to the Sigma Chi Fraternity. While at SMU he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 before obtaining his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1967 from SMU Law School, now the SMU Dedman School of Law. Later that year, he passed the Texas Bar and began his practice as an attorney. Mark was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1973.
In 1985, Mark married Barbara Torr and the couple made their home in Ardmore, OK and eventually Tulsa, where Mark continued his practice. They enjoyed traveling and their escapes to Grand Lake. Mark was licensed in real estate and taught continuing education classes. He was an authority on the subject of human behavior, publishing books on the topic that were beneficial to trial lawyers, real estate professionals and salespeople alike. He was proud to recently obtain his 50-year pin from the Texas Bar Association. Painting was also one of Mark's greatest passions. As a child, Mark painted western scenes he likely admired on the silver screen. Later he enjoyed painting contemporary Native American art, Americana art and Abstract art. His home was adorned with many unique pieces.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Holland C. (H.C.) Ford Jr. and LaVita Ford, his mother Elaine Cole Ford, Barbara Torr Ford and Dr. John Hogg.
Mark is survived by brother Dr. Holland Ford III of Baltimore, MD and his wife, Dr. Marilyn Maze; sister Janet Hogg of Dallas, TX; sister in law Beverly Torr of Tulsa, OK; sister in law Carolyn McKinney of Tulsa, OK; nieces Torry Turnbow and her husband Jason of Enid, OK, Donna Hovis of Raleigh, NC, Leslie Stebbins and her husband John of Atlanta, GA, Kathy Anderson and her husband Jim of Nashville, TN, Carol Roberts and her husband Dan of Aledo, TX; nephew Don McKinney and his wife Melinda of Tulsa; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Mark's name to the Oklahoma United Methodist Conference with Greer Funeral Home, 235 S. Pennsylvania Ave, Mangum, OK 73554, serving as custodian.
Viewing hours will be on Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Granite with Pastor Sue Merritt officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum and Granite.
