Obituary for Mary Alice Cruz
Mary Alice Cruz, long time resident of Altus, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in Altus, Oklahoma.
Mary was born September 8, 1925 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She married Juan S. Cruz on September 8, 1964 in Vernon, Texas and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1980.
Mary had made her home in Altus for over 50 years. She retired as a Hostess from the NCO Club at the Altus Air Force Base. Mary devoted her life to helping others. She faithfully served as a Missionary with the Church of God in Christ II in Altus where she was a member for many years. She was a devoted daughter and friend to her mother, Catherine Brown, until her death December 20, 1997.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, R.B. Searcey; mother, Catherine Brown; husband, Juan Cruz; aunts, Willie Dee Hamilton, Corrine McShane and Curley Mae Reed; cousin, Al Dunn Reed; and nephew, Tommy Gibson.
She is lovingly survived by a niece, Cathy Hamilton of Stonemountain, GA; nephew, Tony Hamilton of Syracuse, NY; great-nieces, Shanelle Edwards of Altus, OK, Molly Edwards, also of Altus, Corisa McCorkle of Stonemountain, GA, and LaKiesha Hunter of Ft. Worth, TX; her adopted daughter, Lelar Cole of Altus, OK; and adopted grandchildren, Patrick King of Altus and Deaundre Hunter of Ft. Worth, TX. Mary will be greatly missed by her family, extended family, and many, many friends.
Services have been scheduled for Mary Alice Cruz for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
