Obituary for Michael James Pettijohn
Michael James Pettijohn, age 58, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away on the evening of Friday, June 4, 2004 at his home.
Michael was born August 1, 1945 in Cleburne, Texas to the late Marshall and Dorothy (Cargal) Pettijohn. He was the oldest of three children.
He spent his childhood and teenage years in Fort Smith, Arkansas, attending high school in Ozark Adventist Academy in Arkansas and college at Loma Linda University in California where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. He moved to Altus with his wife Brenda in 1969 and has been a resident here for 35 years. Michael and his family are members of the Altus Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He has been employed as a Physical Therapist in hospitals all over Southwestern Oklahoma,
including Mangum, Elk City, Frederick and Snyder. His primary employer has been Wilbarger General Hospital in Vernon, Texas where he has been the Director of Physical Therapy for over 30 years. Michael was well loved by his co-workers and friends.
He has remained an active part of the musical community within Altus for over 15 years, playing the piano, both solo and as an accompanying part of the Presbyterian pops group. Michael's musical gift as a pianist touched the lives of many people.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda and two children, Jennifer Pettijohn of Altus, Oklahoma and Brendan Pettijohn and wife Cinnamon of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Katre and Emma Davis; two brothers, Jim Pettijohn and wife Louise of Greenwood, Arkansas and Kelly Pettijohn and wife Melodie of Horse Shoe, North Carolina.
Michael will be deeply missed and forever loved as a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle and a friend.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Altus with Melvin Sauder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Internment will be at the Addington Cemetery in Addington, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends Monday, June 7, 2004 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
