Michael Kraig May, 55, a long-time resident of Clinton, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday evening, October 21, 2007 at his residence.
Michael was born on September 26, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Kenneth and Gayle (Shogren) May. He was raised in Lawton and Clinton, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school in 1970. He then obtained his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. it was there that he met Cathy Marie Nail, and on December 22, 1973 they were married in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Upon graduation from pharmacy school, he began his career as a pharmacist with Clinton Regional Hospital, eventually serving as director of the pharmacy.
The consummate pharmacist, he strived for excellence in his field and was twice recognized by fellow employees for his contributions as the PULSE Award recipient, a yearly honor that acknowledges the outstanding employee of the hospital. Together with his wife, he further pursued his education by obtaining his Doctorate of Pharmacy form the University of Oklahoma in 2004. He was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.
Though committed to his profession and the health of patients, it was his family and friends that were the joy of his life. he and his wife enjoyed traveling, gardening as well as visiting with family and friends. With his sons, he greatly enjoyed backpacking and camping. He had many memorable experiences serving as a Boy Scout leader on trips to the Florida Sea Base, Philmont Scout Ranch, National Scout Jamboree, and countless other adventures. He loved watching his daughter dance ballet, cheer and play in soccer games. He was most thankful for the opportunity to walk her down the aisle at her wedding this past June. He also took pleasure in spending time with the extended family at the May family cabin at Grand Lake in Northeastern Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Clinton Civic Music Association and Kiwanis Club, serving as president of each organization. He also served on the board of the United Fund. His many interests included photography, spending time outdoors, and attending classical music performances.
Michael is survived by his wife, Cathy of the home; three children, Christopher Heath of Durham, North Carolina, Jeffrey Michael and his wife Deanne Marie of Plano, Texas, and Heather Cathleen and her husband Jordan Andrew Brim of Norman, Oklahoma; his parents, Kenneth and Gayle of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two sisters, Kathy Diane Revere of Tulsa Oklahoma, Karen Sue Nielsen and her husband John Richard Nielsen of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brothers and sisters-in-law, Milan and Karen Davis of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Paul and Jenny Nail of Conway, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Kent May.
