Obituary for Michael Lynn Mains
Micheal Lynn "Mike" Mains, 74, passed away on April 30, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mike was born on January 29, 1952, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Samuel Frederick Mains and Maxine Levon Hollis. He was raised in Altus and lived there until January 1977. In 1974, he welcomed his first child, Jodi Lynn Mains Lee in Altus-a moment that brought him great pride and joy.
He later made his home in Tulsa from 1983 to 2022, where he and Carla Jo Haley Mains built their life together and raised their family. During that time, they welcomed two children, Micheal Lynn Mains Jr. and Jenison. Carla passed away on March 8, 2015, after her own courageous battle with cancer.
Later in life, Mike returned to his hometown of Altus. There, he married Sally Mains on April 30, 2022, and the two spent their time traveling, golfing, and happily chasing around Sally's grandchildren to all of their many activities.
Mike dedicated over 12 years to GCC, serving as Corporate Credit Manager. He joined the company in May 2012 and was known for his professionalism, consistency, and the strong relationships he built across teams. He was a trusted partner, a steady presence, and a friend to many. In a meaningful and bittersweet moment, Mike's retirement day coincided with the day of his passing.
If you knew Mike, you knew he loved golf. The golf course was one of his favorite places to be-not just for the game, but for the friendships. Over the years, he built countless friendships on the course... and may have lost a few good clubs along the way, too.
One of Mike's proudest golf accomplishments was shooting his age-69-a milestone any golfer knows is no small feat.
Above all, Mike cherished his family. One of his greatest joys in life was the birth of his children, a memory he held close to his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Mains; his children, Jodi Lee Mains, Jenison Leigh Smith and husband Justin, and Micheal Lynn Mains Jr.; as well as his grandchildren, Michelle Rodriguez and husband Ryan, Brendon Micheal Snodgrass, and Alex Smith. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Danny and Sammy Mains; and Carla Jo Haley Mains.
He will also be remembered for the friendships he built throughout his life, especially his lifelong friendship with Mike Singleton.
A celebration of life will be held on 11:00 a.m. Monday at Western Heritage Golf Club in Altus, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Mike's memory to First Presbyterian Church in Altus, Oklahoma, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
