Obituary for Mildred Carmel Hinkle
Mildred Carmel (Horn) Hinkle age 91, born March 4, 1908 in Manitou, Tillman County Oklahoma to Abbie Andrew and Ella Sanders Horn.
She married Dewey Lester Hinkle, Sr. in Marietta (Love County) Oklahoma in 1925. they had one son, D.L. Hinkle Jr. The family moved to Altus in 1928.
She studied Cosmetology under her aunt, Ann Houston Shuler, and was a beautician from 1928 to 1946. In 1947, Mildred and Dewey along with son D.L. and wife Deanna opened a family owned business, Main Cleaners. During the time she worked in the Alternation Dept., She completed courses in Master designer in Ladies and Gentlemen's garment designing.
Mildred became a member of the Baptist Church in Marietta in 1920. After moving to Altus, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she taught various ages of Sunday school classes. The last being adult Ladies Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey in June 1973, her son, D.L. in April 1994, her parents, three brothers, Everett, Gene and Vernon Horn.
She is survived by one sister, Margie Halluym of Marietta, a daughter-in-law Deana Hinkle of Altus, a foster daughter and husband Patti and Al Boaldin, two foster grandchildren Ashli and Audri Boaldin, five sister-in-laws. Also surviving, Vela, horn New Mexico, Bobbie Horn, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Anna Mae Horn, Ft. Worth, Texas, Ronnie Hughes, Altus, Marie Balthrop, Oregon; cousin Betty Tipton, of Altus and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 1999 at 2:00pm at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. David Chittenden officiating. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
