Obituary for Ms. Gladys Gurlee Shaw
Gladys Shaw peacefully joined her Lord on Tuesday, July 21st, 2009. She was born to this world September 12, 1916 in Bunkie, Louisiana to Clarence and Lou Bertha Washington. She married the love of her life, Willie J. Shaw Sr. on October 8, 1933 in Kemp, Texas. She was his faithful companion for over 56 years until his departure on June 17, 1990.
In 1946, Gladys and Willie moved their family to Altus where Gladys worked as a Practical Nurse. She was a longtime member of St. Johns Baptist Church where she loved to serve her God and help her earthly brothers and sisters.
Ms Shaw was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Willie Sr.; one son, Charles Shaw; and a grandson, Charles Albert Shaw.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing five children, Willie J. Shaw Jr. of the home in Altus, Brady Shaw of Altus, Sherry Shaw of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Roger Shaw of Altus and Angela Shaw also of Altus; 22 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of the Life of Gladys Shaw has been scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Johns Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Bostic officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
