Obituary for Myrtle Ruth Matheson
Myrtle Ruth Matheson, 82, longtime resident of Hollis, OK passed away July 30, 2021, at her home after a short battle with Lymphoma. Ruthie was born June 17, 1939, in Hollis to the late Clarence Hundley and Oleta (Bearden) Hundley. Ruthie was raised in Ron and Hollis, graduating from Hollis High School. On July 14, 1956, she married the love of her life Harvie Wayne Matheson in Hollis, Oklahoma. This marriage would be blessed with a son Monte and a daughter Monica. Wayne and Ruthie just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ruthie worked for Hollis Lumber for seventeen years as a bookkeeper. After leaving the lumber yard, she worked at Harmon County Memorial Hospital for another thirty years retiring as the chief financial officer. To say Ruthie was hard working was an understatement. If she wasn’t working at the hospital, she was taking care of her parents, or working with her husband at the Sears store they owned. Wayne and Ruthie were class parents. She was dedicated to many organizations and clubs throughout Hollis. A member of the Garden Club and a faithful member of The First Baptist Church of Hollis since 1957. Back in the day, Ruthie enjoyed square dancing around SW OK. She enjoyed going to concerts with her daughter, Monica. Family trips to South Fork, CO. to spend a week in August cooling off was always high on her list, and cheering on the OSU Cowboys was one of her favorite things. She loved attending any and all sporting events, concluding them with a selfie. Our “Honey” will always be in our hearts through the captured moments and the ones we shared together. We love you and miss you always!

She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Hundley; Mother Oleta (Bearden) Hundley.

Left to honor her memory is her husband, Wayne Matheson of the home; son Monte Matheson and wife Martina of Walden, Colorado; daughter Monica McGraw and husband Matt of Dallas, Texas. Grandchildren, Meredith and Mallory McGraw of Dallas, Texas; Matthew and Wendy Matheson of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Montana and Whitney Matheson of Elk City, Oklahoma and Ambra Matheson of Lawton, Oklahoma. Five great grandchildren, Lukas Matheson, Dylan Matheson, Silas Matheson, Myles Matheson , Oliver Matheson; special friends and caretakers, Donna and Bart Plummer, Lisa Salazar, and Brian Gollihare.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Lymphoma Society.

The Matheson family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday August 5, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Hollis, Oklahoma, with internment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.

Services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
