Obituary for Naomi Jo Sutton
Naomi Jo Sutton, a resident of Lubbock, Texas and formerly of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at her home in Lubbock.

Naomi was born in Amherst, TX. She was still an infant when the family moved to Hollis. She lived there throughout childhood, and most of her adult life. Jo went to school at Hollis, and graduated in 1952. She attended college at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, for one year. On March 22, 1959 Jo married Lloyd Sutton, Jr. in Hollis, Oklahoma and they enjoyed 50 years, 6 weeks of marriage together before Lloyd's death in May of 2009. Jo and Lloyd lived in Amarillo for a while, then Plainview, as well as Muskogee and Okmulgee, for short times, but mainly lived in Hollis, until 1995, when they moved to Lubbock, Texas to be close to Jodeanna, their daughter and her family. Jo worked at variety stores, when she was younger, before marriage, then she worked in day care centers, and she worked several years at the Westview Boys Home, and later the Headstart program. Mainly she stayed home and took care of her husband and daughter. Jo and Lloyd were members of First Baptist Church in Hollis, and attended regularly. She was saved at the age of 12, at Harmony Baptist Church, and baptized in First Baptist Church. She served the Lord since that time, teaching Sunday School, Training Union, Acteens, and GA's over the years. She and Lloyd both sang in the Choir for years, but after her daughter was born, she gave up choir. She worked in the Nursery for many years as well. Jo and Lloyd spent several years working in the Spanish Mission Church, teaching Sunday School and puppetry, and playing the piano during church until it was closed. She protested the closing of mission, then she felt God wanted her to keep teaching the children, and picked them all up, and brought them to her house to teach choir and Sunday School. She also had cookies and punch weeks. Jo loved taking care of her family, nieces and nephews, and all children. She wanted a large family, but was so happy when her daughter came into her life. She took care of her husband, who was ill from an injury in the army, and she took care of her mother, as well.

Preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Sutton, Jr; her father, Arthur Cecil Trammell; her mother, Jewel Ethel Trammell; brother, John William Trammell; sister, Cecil Dell Alexander

Jo is survived by her daughter, Jodeanna Castro and husband Jerry, of Lubbock; 3 sisters, Mary Levon Walkup of Amarillo, TX, Bennie Dean Davis of Amarillo, and Shirley Beth Gregerson of Hollis, OK; three granddaughters, Joanie Sumner and husband Brad of Madison, Wisconsin, Amanda Turner of Madison, Wisconsin, and Rebecca Turner of Lubbock, TX; four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
