Obituary for Nelda I. Black
Nelda I. Black, age 85, former resident of Altus, died Sunday, August 11th, 1996 at Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine, TX. Services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Nelda was born February 5th, 1911 in Altus, Oklahoma, to W.A. and Bell (Toney) Baucum. She married Creston Black on August 19, 1928 in Mangum, OK. She was a bookkeeper for Long Bell Lumber and later for Yates John Deere Empliment Co.
Mrs. Black was a lifelong resident of Altus and Jackson County. She moved to Grapevine, TX in 1986 to be close to her son. Nelda attended the Community Baptist Church in Southlake, TX. Mrs. Black's hobbies were reading and enjoying her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 15, 1986; her parents; two brothers; three sisters; one daughter, Doris Capps.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Black and his wife, Karen of Southlake, TX; five grandchildren, Cary Capps, Rick Black, Tracy Patterson, Ronnie Capps and Kimmy Humphreys; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
