Obituary for Newton Arthur Gullett
Newt A. Gullet, age 96, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 24, 1908 in Porum, Oklahoma to James B. and Phoebe (Jones) Gullett.
He served in the United States Army during world War II and was honorably discharged. Newt owned and operated Newt's Food Store at Duke for forty-six years.
Newt married Marie B. McDaniel in 1927, at Gould, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1956. In 1957, he married Alma Ree Vinson at Mangum, Oklahoma.
Newt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and a longtime member of the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife Alma Ree Gullett of Altus, Oklahoma; one son, Jimmy Gullett and wife Norma of Benton, Arkansas; one daughter, Delphine Williamson of Purcell, Oklahoma. He is also survived by one sister, Irene Holsey of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother Earl Gullett of Dumas, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Gullett, one brother, Harold Gullett, two sisters Ethel Purdue and Bert Roberson.
Funeral services for Newt A. Gullett are scheduled for Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Eugene Foreman officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Cemetery at Duke, Oklahoma under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
