Nivelton Eugene "Gene" Chambless, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013, at his residence, in Mangum, Oklahoma.
Mr. Chambless was born in Vinson, Oklahoma on September 18, 1932, to Leb and Stella (Daniels) Chambless. While attending school in Vinson, Gene helped his dad work on machines and enjoyed spending time with his family. On November 13, 1951, he married Wanda (Mead) and they moved to Amarillo, Texas. In 1953, Gene was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served during the Korean War. Gene returned to Amarillo, Texas after completing his service for our country. In 2010, Gene moved to Mangum, so that he could be closer to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don Chambless, Billy Wayne Chambless and Buddy Chambless. Gene is survived by his wife; four daughters, Debra Wyatt and husband Mearl of Mangum, Norma Harper of Mangum, Tammy Martinez and husband Felix of New York, New York and Cynthia Martin and husband Jerry of Mangum; three sons, Larry Chambless of Eagletown, Oklahoma, Billy Chambless of Louisiana and Buddy Chambless and wife Shannon of Denver, Colorado; one brother Charles Chambless and wife Judy of Mangum; twenty-five grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Gene Chambless will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at Reed Cemetery, in Reed, with Larry Reynolds officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
