Obituary for Norma Frances Barber
Norma Frances Barber, age 87, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Plantation Village Nursing Home in Altus, Oklahoma.
Norma was born January 11, 1924, in Martinton, Illinois, to Charles Edward and Bessie Florence (McElheny) Starkey. She graduated from high school in Watseka, Illinois. Norma married Dale K. Barber June 21, 1944, in Watseka. She worked for Killingbeck Insurance Company in Kokomo, Indiana. She also prepared taxes for individuals and was also a tax consultant. Norma was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, loved to play bridge and other card games, and enjoyed dancing with her husband during their married life. She also enjoyed working in the concession stand for the Kokomo Little League teams. Norma moved to Altus in June of 2010 to be near family. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, two brothers, Herb Starkey and Floyd Starkey, five sisters, Beatrice Starkey, Barbara Starkey, Eva LaFlamme, Opal Weidert, Beverley St. Germain, one son, Craig Barber, one niece, Nora Mae Starkey, and one nephew, Floyd "Son" Starkey, Norma is survived by one son, Bradford Barber and wife Nan of Port Orchard, Washington; two granddaughters, Beth Solecki and husband Christopher of Allen, Texas, and Irene Barber of Seattle, Washington; one grandson, Greg Barber, of Seattle, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Jillian Solecki and Declan Dale Solecki, of Allen, Texas; nieces, Vickie Redman and husband Richard of Altus, Oklahoma, Jan Bolling of Kankakee, Illinois; nephew Dick Starkey and wife Norma of Vacaville, California, nephew Keith Starkey of Illinois, niece Francis Starkey of Illinois, and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Her niece, Vickie Redman has been Norma"s caregiver for the last year and was very special in Norma"s life. Norma"s great-nieces, Crystal Osborn and Teresa Downs were also of great help with her care.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Body Cemetery in Woodland, Illinois, under the direction of Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka, Illinois. Local arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma.
