Norman L. Johns, age 87, of Bullard, Texas and formerly of Tipton, Oklahoma, passed away Friday evening, July 1, 2016 at Mother of Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas.
Norman was born in Headrick, Oklahoma on June 14, 1929 to his parents William and Lila (Dennis) Johns. He grew up in Headrick and graduated class of 1948 from Headrick High School. Shortly after high school, Norman volunteered and joined the United States Army and served for two years and received an honorable discharge. On June 9, 1956 he married the love of his life Theresia Yates in Grand Junction, Colorado and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage together. Norman retired from the City of Dallas Water Department and he was a longtime member of the Masonic and York Rite Lodges. He was volunteer of the year for the state of Oklahoma for his service at the Tipton, Oklahoma Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing and whittling wood but most of all he treasured time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister, Nettie Frances Johns; and one brother, Glen Johns; Norman is survived by his wife Theresia Johns of Bullard, Texas; his two daughters, Rebecca Grantham and her husband Michael of Greenville, Texas and Cheryl Reichert and her husband Dennis of Bullard, Texas; one sister, Nita Barker and her husband Duane of Tipton; two brothers, Joe Lynn Johns and his wife Margaret and Bill Johns and his wife Sharon all of Tipton; six grandchildren, Shawn, Seth, and Elle Grantham; Tyler, Annabelle, and Logan Reichert; as well as nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Johns will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at the Navajo Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 6 until 8 p.m.
