Otis B. Watkins, age 81, of Altus, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2014, at Ayers Nursing Home, in Snyder.
Mr. Watkins was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on September 23, 1932, to James Bareman and Pearl (Gentry) Watkins. Moving to Poteau, Otis graduated from Poteau High School. Shortly after graduation, Otis moved to Oklahoma City and began training with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1952, he moved to Altus where he spent the next twenty-five years with Southwestern Bell as the repairman at Altus Air Force Base. A hard worker all of his life, Otis had very little free time after his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed telling stories and spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, A.J. Watkins and one sisters, Louise Weston, he is survived by one son, Bull Watkins and wife Jude of Altus; two daughters, Linda Cole and husband Rex of Elk City and Robin Watkins of Elk City; five grandchildren, Tiffany Clark and husband Ashley of Nashville, Tennessee, Jay Watkins and wife Holly of Altus, Koby Cole of Elk City, Kendra Cole of Elk City and Shelley Federico and husband Joe of Norfolk, Virginia; six great grandchildren, Asher Clark, Gracie Clark, Axton Jay Clark, Rowdy Cole, Waylon Watkins and Jaden Federico; the mother of his children, Wanda (Meek) Watkins along with many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services for Otis Watkins will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the Family Life Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
