WOLFE

Laura Louise "Patricia" Wolfe, 90, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, formerly of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016, in Altus, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas.

Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service.

Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.

A native of Huntsville, Missouri, Laura Louise "Patricia" Hammett was born July 2, 1925, the daughter of Jefferson Wise Hammett and Emma Nadine Marconett.

She graduated high school in Miami, Florida, and attended college in Sioux City, Iowa.

During World War II, she worked as a radio operator for the Civil Aeronautics Authority at an Airway Communication Station in Acomita, New Mexico. Her duties included providing pilots on the Los Angeles to Albuquerque route with weather information, relaying position reports, and coordination search and rescue. She was one of the first women in the country to do this job.

After the war she met and married Charles Spurgeon Wolfe, and together they traveled the world while in the Air Force. She lived in Texas, Florida, New Mexico, California, Germany, France, Alabama, Virginia, Kansas, the Philippines, and Hawaii. During this time she worked as an elementary school teacher and enjoyed keeping up the home and raising two children. She was a devoted military wife and supported her husband"s career of 31 years. She did volunteer work for countless charitable organizations and held numerous service oriented positions including secretary and president of the Officers" Wives Club at various bases.

After initially retiring to Fort Worth, Texas, she moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida, where she has lived since. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and most of all visiting her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchild. She had a kind heart, was a hard worker, and never complained. She was a beautiful person who loved life. She was cherished by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Wolfe; sister, Gloria Hood; husband, Charles S. Wolfe II; and her close friend, Charles "Fink" Fischer.

She is survived by sons, Charles S. Wolfe III of San Marcos, Texas, and Robert W. Wolfe of Altus, Oklahoma; brother, Jefferson W. Hammett Jr. of Galveston, Texas; numerous grandchildren; a great grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
