Obituary for Pedro Sanchez
Pedro “Pete” Sanchez, 78 passed away after a short illness at Bell Avenue Nursing Center in Elk City. He was a long-time resident of Granite, OK.
Pedro Sanchez was born on January 31, 1944, in McAllen, Texas to Paulina and Jose Sanchez. He was raised and went to school in McAllen until he went to work with his family as a migrant worker. They moved to Southwest Oklahoma in the early 1960’s where he was a farm laborer. Pete, along with several siblings and mother moved to Granite, Oklahoma in 1966 where he remained until he went to Bell Avenue in January, 2022. Along with working for several farmers in the local area he also worked at the rock quarry.
Uncle Pete had two sons, Peter and Ronnie Sanchez who were raised in California. Victoria Cerda was raised as his stepdaughter from a short relationship he had. Uncle Pete was very family oriented. He grew up in a large family with several brothers and sisters which resulted in a large number or nieces, nephews, etc. When any family would come to visit from Texas or Indianapolis, you could always count on Uncle Pete providing a goat for a big feast for everyone. Uncle Pete’s was the favorite gathering place for everyone. He loved to tell stories about his youth. He remembered everything and told some great stories. He was always one to keep in touch with extended family. He never forgot a phone number.
Prior to his passing he had become totally blind. He would still hand you his phone and tell you to dial a number. Uncle Pete loved working as a mechanic. He always had a project he was working on. He loved talking about his many projects he had going.
