Peggy Arlene Roach, age 69, of Mangum, passed away early Friday morning, May 7, 2010, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center, in Mangum.
Peggy was born in Granite, Oklahoma on September 12, 1940, to Thurman and Edith (Norton) Brooks. She began school in Granite, moved to Oklahoma City then her family returned to Mangum for her high school years graduating in 1958. After graduating high school she moved to Oklahoma City where she attended beauty college and received an advanced license from Paul Barnes Cosmetology School. On February 14, 1960, she married her best friend and love of her life, George Roach, and they spent fifty wonderful years together. After their marriage, they lived in several places while George served in the military and then he attended pharmacy school. These locations included: Wichita Falls, Midwest City, Weatherford, Sayre and finally Mangum, where they made their home in December of 1967. A Godly wife and Christian mother, Peggy was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She worked as a hairstylist for fifty plus years. Along with hair, she added style to everything around her. She was known as a lady of "class" for her big hats, high heels and great sense of humor. She also had a love for cooking and made sure no one ever left her home hungry. Peggy was loved and adored by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law, Griff Roach and Jim Gunter, she is survived by her loving husband, George, of the home; three children, George Michael Roach of Nashville, Tennessee, Jeffery Brooks Roach and wife Jana of Franklin, Tennessee and Georganna Lively and husband Micky of Mangum; seven grandchildren, Misty Johnson and husband Robert of Elk City; Rachel Scheidemantel and husband Andrew of Elk City; Bennett Roach, Saylor Roach and Marina Roach all of Franklin, Tennessee, Lauren Lively and Madilynn Lively of Mangum; four great grandchildren, Logan Johnson, Jace Johnson, Ciarra Johnson and Harley Scheidemantel all of Elk City; two brothers, Glendon Brooks and wife Dora of Yukon and Bob Brooks and wife Rosa of El Reno; two sisters-in-law Rita Gunter Dearmon and husband Al of Oklahoma City and Lazana Hubbard and husband Willard of Jackson, Missouri and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services for Peggy Roach will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010, at the Church of Christ with Todd McRay, Willie Franklin and Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 until 5:30 p.m.
