Phoebe Jane Brewer DeFord, 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 12, 2015.

Phoebe was born in Lubbock, Texas to Everett Wade and Velma Brewer. They moved to Eldorado, Oklahoma, the following year where Phoebe attended elementary school. During her eighth grade year, she moved to Altus and was a 1957 graduate of Altus High School. Phoebe was a starting guard on the AHS Lady Bulldog Basketball team. She continued to be an avid Bulldogs fan throughout her life. In 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, Billy Ray DeFord. They made their first home in Lawton, Oklahoma where she worked for the Lawton Constitution as a circulation manager. After moving back to Altus, she spent her years as a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and a member of First Baptist Church.

Phoebe was known by many as a hard worker. She worked as the secretary of Rivers Elementary in Altus, Oklahoma. Later on, she worked as a sales clerk at Faces "n Fingers and at the Petite Shop. Finally, in her later years she assisted customers at Rexco Drug.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray DeFord, in 1984 and an infant brother, Randall Brewer.

Survivors include daughter, Elizabeth Renee Long and husband, Lonnie of Altus and Jimmy Ray DeFord and wife, Shannon of Amarillo, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Landon Long of Alexandria, Virginia; Jackson Long of Altus; and Hannah DeFord of Amarillo, Texas. Also surviving are sister, Freda Jean Vann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; niece, Connie Wolf of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephew, Jerry DeFord, Jr. of Goldsby, Oklahoma; and many other special nieces, nephews and friends.

Services for Phoebe Jane DeFord will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma with Reverend Keith Wiginton officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
