Obituary for Placido Esparza Jr.
Placido "Shorty" Esparza, Jr., age 57, of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away, Tuesday evening, February 1, 2011, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center, in Mangum.

Shorty was born on March 20, 1953, in Pleasanton, Texas to Placido Esparza, Sr. and Teodora Lola Leal. In 1959, the family moved to Granite, Oklahoma where they lived until 1976, when they moved to Illinois. While in Illinois, Shorty worked for John Deere Implement Company. In 1984, the family moved back to Granite and Shorty spent the next few years working for several farmers in the area. Spending time with his family and watching westerns on television were some of his favorite pastimes.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Martin Esparza, Shorty is survived by three children, Barbara Brooks and husband Keith of Hollis, Steven Esparza and wife Patti of Clinton and Loretta Govitz of Mangum; seven grandchildren, Colby Brooks of Hollis, Danica Brooks of Weatherford, Mark Brooks of Hollis, Ben Esparza of Clinton, Julie Esparza of Clinton, Breanna Esparza of Mangum and Brent Esparza of Mangum; one great grandchild, Wesley Esparza-Ritter of Mangum; three sisters, Mary Gonzales of Morris, Oklahoma, Patty Martinez and husband Margarito of Pleasanton, Texas and Mary Lou Orosco and husband Joe of Mangum; four brothers, Gregory Esparza and wife Dolores of Mangum, Tomas Esparza and wife Andrea of Granite, Victor Esparza and wife Terri of Granite and Pete Esparza of Altus along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Shorty Esparza will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Mangum. A rosary service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas with interment at Esparza Cemetery in Pleasanton, Texas.
