Ralph Harrison Mock, pioneer, farmer and stockman, 909 Oakwood, passed away at his home, Tuesday, July 27, 1993. Ralph was born to John and Minnie Mock, January 12, 1894 in Prairie
Grover, Arkansas.
services have been scheduled for 11:00am Thursday, July 29, 1993 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with the Rev. Ken Pate officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. the family will be receiving visitors at the Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 10:50 am Thursday morning. Memorials may be made in Mr. Mock's name to the First United Methodist Church or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
Mr. Mock' parents homesteaded in old Greer County, Indian Territory in 1888, on a quarter-section of land Southwest of what is now Altus, Oklahoma. His father moved the family here permanently in 1914, because he thought Altus offered a greater opportunity for his children.
Mr. Mock enlisted in the U.S. Army in World War I, where he served in two major battles, St. Mihiel and the Meus-Argonne in which the German Army was defeated and forced to surrender, thereby ending World War I. He returned to Altus and resumed his farming and livestock operations.
He married Icie Pribble in April of 1923 in Altus where their three children still reside.
Mr. Mock helped organize the Jackson County American Legion Post 44 of which he served as post Commander for several years. In 1989, he was honored for 70 years of dedicated allegiance to the American Legion. During World war II, Mr. Mock served on the Jackson County Ration Board, was an honorary member of the Altus FFA and a charter member of the Altus Round-Up Club. He served on the Jackson County Production Credit Association Board for 28 years, 20 of them as Chairman. He was a lifetime member of the Altus Elks Lodge # 1226, a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemens Association and many other Agri-business Organizations. He was one of the two oldest members of the First United Methodist Church of which his parents were early pioneer members. In 1985 he was honored by the Musem of the Western Prairie as their first VIP Citizen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Icie Mock, in 1979, two brothers Paul and Carthal, and a sister, Blanche.
He is survived by three children, Paul and Mary Nell Mock, Virginia Mock Snell, and John and Frances Mock all of Altus. Seven grandchildren; Harrison Mock, Melissa Brewster, Ann Reeder, Barry Mock, Linda Anthony, Betsy Koontz, and Dr. Mark P. Snell and eight great grandchildren.
