Richard Rodney Banker, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away November 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of seventy-three. Richard was born November 24, 1951, in Altus, Oklahoma, was the beloved son of Walter Rodney Banker and his mother, Betty Jo (Taylor ) Banker. Early in life, Richard moved with his family to Amarillo, Texas, where he later attended Palo Duro High School.
Following his high school graduation Richard returned to Altus and began working alongside his father at Altus Tire Service, a job he dedicated himself to for twenty years. He later spent eight years as a delivery driver with Borden’s Milk and continued his career in transportation with Southwest Transit, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2010.
Richard also served his country with pride as a member of the Texas National Guard from 1969 to 1984.
Richard was a man who found joy in simple, meaningful moments. He loved singing karaoke, spending time in the workshop he built at home, grilling for family and friends, playing golf, and cheering on his beloved Jacksonville Jaguars. He was known for his humor often joking that he was the “Al Bundy of Altus” and for his honesty, strong work ethic, and his unwavering dedication to his family.
Richard met Bettie at a bowling alley, and the two married in 1971. Though they later separated in 2000, they shared a long history and four wonderful children together: Kerri Houston, Richard Kevin Banker and wife Karlie Jo, Candice Kristine Yeager and Gerry, and Karen Ann Coronado.
Left to honor his memory are his wife, Bettie Banker, his children, Kerri Houston, Richard Kevin Banker and wife Karlie Jo, Candice Kristine Yeager and husband Gary, and Karen Ann Coronado; a sister, Beverly Chapman and husband Bob.
Richard was blessed with seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. niece, Lindsey Gray and husband Ricky; great nephews, Silas and Maddex, and numerous other extended family members.
He also leaves behind his beloved companion, Cujo, who was always at his side.
To those who knew him, Richard was an awesome person, funny, kind, and genuine. He was a hardworking man, a loyal friend, and an amazing father whose presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
