Obituary for Richard Wayne Adams
Richard Wayne Adams, 65, of Headrick, lost his battle to cancer on Monday,August 15, 2011 in Altus, Oklahoma, surrounded by family.
Richard was born September 8, 1945, to Wendell Dewayne and Winnie Mae (Barker) Adams in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, at the Mountain Park Hotel. He grew up on a farm on the river bend in Headrick, Oklahoma. He worked since he was about five years of age and was a hard worker even then. He attended the Friendship School and graduated in 1963. He loved horses, loved to worked, most of all, he loved his family. On July 9, 1970, Richard married Barbara Dailey at the Baptist Church in Headrick. They had five children, all girls. He worked for the Badger Oil Company for a few years in the mid 1970's. Richard was also a night watchman at the Headrick Gin & Co-Op for many years. He worked for Hartsel Morris and then John Foley, changing flats for many years as well as doing his own work at Adams Tire Service. Richard worked for Don Petzold for Petzold Services as well as on Don's farm for several years before Don's death. Don was a very dear friend to Richard. The last several years, he worked out of a little tire shop across the tracks from the sheriff's department on South Main. He had many loyal customers and many friends who stopped in to either get a tire changed or just shoot the breeze. Richard was a hard working man and there wasn't a tire that he couldn't fix. He used good ol' fashioned tools, hard work, and elbow grease to get the job done. He was a kind, honest, and sincere man who would give the shirt off his back to help those in need, whether he knew them or not.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Robin Merlene Adams. He leaves behind his wife of forty-one years, Barbara Adams; five daughters, Sherrie Adams and Trina Adams, both of Altus, Brandy Adams of Roosevelt, Sue Morris and husband Tim of Headrick, and Faith Lara of Roosevelt; three brothers, Jerry Adams and wife Alice of Midwest City, Tommy Adams and wife Evelyn of Midwest City, and B.J. Adams of Nicoma Park. He had thirteen grandchildren, Tim Vargas and wife Steffanee, Christopher Macias, Ricky, Robert, and Blake Adams, Anthony Adams, Sarena, Alyssa and Wayne Morris, Colton, Erika, Sierra, and Trista Lara, two great-grandchildren, Austin and Charlie Adams, and several nieces. Richard had several close friends, Cooper Wilson, Buddy Hawthorne, Guy and Beverly Thompson, Rocky Kelly, Ivan Jones, Dwain Chisum, Annette Erickson, Sue Petzold, Butch Elliot, Larry and Ryan Bradley, Bill Boyd, and Theresa and Steve Jameson. Richard was especially fond of his horses, "Dog" and "Shelby."
The family requests that memorial donations in memory of Richard Wayne Adams be made to Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Richard will lie in state Wednesday evening until service time on Friday. Friends are welcome to view him in the stateroom at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home even after the memorial service.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 19 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Pastor Adam Saavedra officiating. Friends are invited to be present when Richard's cremains are buried on his birthday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain Park Cemetery.
