Obituary for Ricky Dean Self
Ricky Dean Self, 61 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home at Hicks Mountain.
Ricky was born July 31, 1957 in Altus, Oklahoma to David Whistler and Wanda June (Jones) Self. He was raised in and educated in Altus, Oklahoma and graduated from Altus High School in 1976. Ricky graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1982. In 1992 Ricky relocated to New York City to work in the fashion industry as a Sales Representative for many clothing companies such as Laundry, Nicky Hilton, and many others. New York was his second home and he loved everything New York from its people, food, fashion, night life and the New York skyline. In 2012 he returned home to care for his father. After his father's passing a new passion was born in his life which was helping others with their recovery from drugs and Alcohol. Ricky helped start the Amethyst House which opened in August, 2018. Amethyst House is a nonprofit whose goal is to help to help women battling drug and alcohol addiction by providing housing, counseling and jobs.
Ricky loved people, he loved his friends and family. He loved unconditionally because that's all he knew to do. Ricky loved with no judgment or malice towards others and helping others gave him a sense of joy and fulfillment.
He is survived by his Mother; Wanda June Self of Altus, Oklahoma, Niece; Jennifer Burrow of Altus Oklahoma, Aunt; Rosetta Holmes of New Mexico, Sister in Law; Donna Self, great Nephews; Byke and Racer Burrow of Altus, and many cousins, as well as a host of friends from across the United States.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday December 20th from 6:30 to 7:30 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
A memorial service has been scheduled from 10:00 A.M. Friday December 21, 2018 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel, Altus, Oklahoma.
In Lieu of flowers Ricky would want donations to go to Amethyst House.
