GRAY
Robert L. Gray was born July 12, 1925, in Altus, Oklahoma to J.D. and Erma Whittiker Gray. The family moved to Lone Wolf, and then Mangum, Oklahoma where he attended Mangum Schools. He entered military service September 4, 1943, served with the 895th Signal Corp in France and Belgium. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1945.
He married Billie Jean Petty of Mangum Oklahoma on September 28, 1945. They had two children, Joe B. Gray of Mangum and Patti Gray Eaton of Greeley Colorado.
Bob worked for the US Postal Service retiring on February 1, 1982 after 21 years of service. Although he made a living as a US Postal employee, his heart and soul belonged to the "farms". He must have known his time with us was nearing an end because he recently made the statement: "It"s time to gas up the tractor and go home."
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Billie, of the home; a son, Joe B. and wife, Alice, of Mangum; a daughter, Patti Gray Eaton and husband, David, of Greeley, Colorado; three grandchildren, Phillip Paxton and wife, Jill, of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Paxton of Lewisville, Texas and David Gray of Duke, Oklahoma; four great grandchildren, Deidre and Maggie Paxton of Granite, Oklahoma and Rory and Ian Paxton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret Gray Carder, of Mangum, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Bobby Gray will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the Mangum First Baptist Church with Brother John Robles officiating. Internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
