Obituary for Robert Dan Robbins
Robert Dan "Robbie" Robbins, 87, Altus, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Robbie was born on April 18, 1938, in Altus, Oklahoma to Robert "Dan" and Alma (Waldroop) Robbins. He grew up in the Ozark community and graduated from Altus High School with the Class of 1956. He then attended Oklahoma A&M and graduated with bachelor degrees in Animology and Agronomy. Robbie moved back to the Jackson County area where he would farm cotton and wheat until his passing. He enjoyed being a farmer and raised some cattle. Robbie married Linda (Wells) Schartung on December 23, 2004, in Altus. He was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ. He was a huge supporter of Oklahoma State University and served as President of the OSU Board of Regents for twelve years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the PCCA, Gin Board, Irrigation Board, and Water Resource Board. Robbie received numerous awards in the farming industry including the 2002 Legend of Agriculture Award, 2021 Southwest High Cotton Award, and was inducted into the Cotton Hall of Fame in 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mary Rebecca Burrow Adams and Imogene Cheatwood Robbins; and two brothers, Ronald and Larry Robbins.
Those left to honor Robbie's memory are his wife, Linda, of the home; his son, Danny Robbins and partner, Sarah; his stepchildren, Dr. Kimothy Smith, Eddie Smith, Sandy Bourgeois and husband, Jeff, and Brent Schartung and wife, Mary; three grandchildren, Kimothy Smith and wife, Emilee, Rachael Bailey and husband, Thomas, and Daniel Robbins and wife, Hayden; five step grandchildren, Garrett Cox and wife, Emily, Marissa Gough and husband, Steven, Austin Bourgeois and wife, Kaci, Travis Bourgeois and wife, Kaylee, Kayleigh Pipho and husband, Kyle, and Vivian and Evelyn Schartung; his great grandchildren, Acelee Smith, Axel, Ember, and Rowan Bailey, and Campbell and Remington Robbins; his step great grandchildren, Grady and Casey Cox, Percy and Waylon Gough, Leilan Dale, Leiken Dale, Killian Bourgeois, Brant, Isla, and Denver Bourgeois; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Devoll and Merilee Robbins; and many other family members and a host of friends.
The Robbins family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Tamarack Road Church of Christ with Adam Matthews and Daniel Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robbie's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
