Obituary for Robert Lee Slampa
Robert Lee Slampa,78, resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away July 4, 2020, at Childress Regional Medical Center in Childress, Texas.

Bob was born on January 17, 1942, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Joseph and Emilie Antonia (Chmelar) Slampa. In the fourth grade, the Slampa family moved to Cedar Hill, Texas. Bob was a talented fullback for Cedar Hill High School. During his junior year of high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his senior year, he proposed to Janis Lou Fleeman. In 1960 Bob graduated from high school and soon after moved from the Naval reserves to active duty. On September 17, 1960, he married Janis Lou in Dallas, Texas. Of this marriage, three children were born, Stephanie, Stephen, and Stacey.

In the Navy, Bob was an aviation machinist mate (jet engine mechanic). During the ten years he served in the Navy, he received numerous awards and recognitions. The Slampa family was stationed at Naval Air Station Dallas, Texas, Weymouth, Massachusetts, and Glen View Naval Air Station, Illinois.

After his time in the military, the Slampa family returned to Cedar Hill, Texas. Bob owned and operated a Texaco station in Duncanville, Texas. He then bought some land and moved his family to Gorman, Texas and worked briefly at Birdsong Peanut Company. He became interested in welding and attended school at Ranger Junior College where he later taught welding classes. He became a self-employed welder and worked throughout Texas and Oklahoma to support his family. In 2001, Bob and Jan moved to Hollis, Oklahoma where he continued to weld, work cows with his grandsons, and haul peanuts and cotton.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bluegrass music, camping, and RVing, and riding motorcycles. Janis and Bob loved to travel the country riding motorcycles across the United States. Their favorite trip was to Colorado and then to Wyoming. Bob was a hard-working man with a zest for life and a deep passion and love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Slampa; Mother, Emilie Antonia (Chmelar) Slampa; siblings, Emilie Marek, Edward Slampa, and Shirley Slampa.

Bob is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Janis Slampa, three children, Stephanie, and husband Jamie Snider, Stephen and wife Kimberlee Slampa, Stacey and husband Powell Compton; eleven grandchildren, Kael Snider, Craig, and wife Gari Sue Snider, Matthew Snider, Anna Snider, Andrew Snider, Chloe Slampe, Aaron and wife Megan Compton, Brittany Compton, Emilie Compton, Bethanie Compton, Natalie Compton, six great-grandchildren, Colin, J.J., Theron, Keaton, Kameron, Karson, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended families members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may to be sent to ALMA Ministry care of Firstfruits Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 344, Gorman, Texas 76454, or the charity of your choosing.

The Slampa family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.

A memorial graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Dryden Cemetery in Harmon County, Oklahoma.

Cremation and Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
