Obituary for Robert Wayne Jameson
Robert Wayne Jameson, 68, of Altus, Oklahoma, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 10, 2026, at his home in Altus.
Robert was born on January 31, 1958, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Bobby Dale Jameson and Clara Gene Southward Jameson. He was raised from an early age in the close knit community of Headrick, Oklahoma, a place that would forever hold a special place in his heart. He graduated from Altus High School in 1977 and spent his life serving others through kindness, friendship, hard work, and unwavering faith.
Faith was the foundation upon which Robert built his life. The values of Christianity were instilled in him through his family and the congregation of First Baptist Church of Headrick. As a young man, he cherished summers spent attending Falls Creek, where his relationship with God grew stronger each year. Robert often spoke openly about his faith and his anticipation of the day he would be reunited with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the loved ones who had gone before him. His confidence in God's promises brought him comfort and guided him throughout his life.
Robert dedicated many years of service to his community. He worked as a custodian at Jackson County Memorial Hospital and later with Altus Public Schools until declining health made retirement necessary. Wherever he worked, Robert's friendly smile, gentle spirit, and genuine concern for others made a lasting impression. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for conversation. Whether speaking with lifelong friends or someone he had just met, Robert had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and appreciated.
One of the greatest passions of his life was the Headrick Volunteer Fire Department. Robert's devotion to the department went far beyond simply supporting it. He cared for the fire trucks as if they were his own, changing oil, checking fuel levels, maintaining equipment, mowing grass, and tending to countless details that often went unnoticed by others. He understood the importance of preparedness and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the department could serve its community effectively. He was one of the department's strongest advocates and took great pride in helping make the Headrick Volunteer Fire Department the very best it could be.
Robert was a man who found joy in life's simple blessings. He loved fishing, gardening, and surrounding himself with beautiful flowers. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting toy John Deere tractors, a collection he treasured and proudly displayed over the years. His love for those little green tractors was more than a hobby; it was part of who he was. When he learned he was going to become an uncle, Robert was overjoyed. Long before his nephew arrived, he made sure to have a toy John Deere tractor ready as a special gift. It was one of the very first presents he gave, beginning a lifelong bond that reflected the love and pride he felt for his family. Robert also deeply loved his dogs and cared for them with the same tenderness and devotion he showed to everyone around him.
Family meant everything to Robert. He held a special place in his heart for his nephews, Kyle Jameson and Jon Myers, whom he loved dearly. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with family and friends and was happiest when sharing stories, laughter, and conversation. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, generous spirit, and his ability to find the good in nearly everyone. It was often said that Robert never had a bad word to say about anyone, except perhaps Steve every now and then, and even those comments were shared with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Robert was a simple man in the best sense of the word. He measured wealth not by possessions, but by relationships. He loved deeply, cared sincerely, and gave freely of himself to others. His life was a testimony to kindness, humility, faith, and service.
Preceding Robert in death were his father, Bobby Dale Jameson; his mother, Clara Gene Southward Jameson; his grandparents, J.O. and Lula Southward, and Sam and Ider Lee Jameson; and his sisters, Kim Myers and Debra Jane Jameson.
Left to carry on his legacy are his brother, Steve Jameson and wife Theresa of Headerick, Oklahoma Oklahoma; his nephew, Kyle Jameson and wife Leslie of Altus, Oklahoma; his nephew, Jon Myers of Memphis, Texas; two great nieces, Destiny and Journey of Altus, Oklahoma; two aunts, Patsy Bynum of Rogers, Arkansas, and Gaye Harvey and husband Alton of Altus, Oklahoma; special cousins, Stewart Messner of Hedley, Texas, and Angela Haines of Round Rock, Texas; also surviving Robert is his wife Cheryl Jameson, along with a host of cousins, extended family members, church family, fellow firefighters, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the impact of his life will continue through the many people he touched. His family and friends find comfort knowing that the man who so often spoke of Heaven has now received the reward he long anticipated and is forever at peace in the presence of his Savior.
