Obituary for Rosie Rena Hinton
Rosie Rena Hinton, Pioneer country resident who passed away at the Altus House Nursing Home July 7, 1987. She was born in the Warren on February 29, 1896, when it was part of Greer County, Texas. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs D.P. Roach, who ran the Warren store at the time of her birth. Her maternal grandfather, William Jowett, was the Warren postmaster. Rosie married Henry W. Hinton November 1, 1914.

Rosie grew up as a true daughter of the prairie frontier, able to ride her horse across the grasslands as fast as he could run, yet sitting side-saddle as propriety dictated in that era. Some of her first shoes as a toddler were moccasins made by Kiowa craftsmen and traded for merchandise in her father's store. As a teenager she drove a freight wagon for her father, hauling baled cotton from the Warren gin to Altus. On one occasion, she drove a covered wagon from Shamrock, Texas, to Warren.

Rosie Rena Hinton is survived by sons, Melvin Hinton, College Station, Texas; Ardron Hinton, Warren, Oklahoma; daughter, Oleta Bush, Warren, Oklahoma; brother, Jack Roach, Warren, Oklahoma; sister, Oma Allen, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; Floretta Craig, California; sic grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren.
