Roy George Cross, 90, long time resident of the Friendship Community, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Roy was born October 11, 1918 in the Friendship Community to Theo and Janie (Bell) Cross. He was a member of the original Midway Methodist Church in Friendship and after it closed, moved his membership to the First United Methodist Church in Altus.
On February 5, 1940, he married the love of his life, Mary Wright in Sayre, Oklahoma. They made their home in Friendship where he farmed cotton and wheat for many years. Roy was a kind and caring man who never had a harsh word for anyone. He lived by the motto of "A man is only as good as his word". Roy was a very devoted family man who adored nothing more than his wife, daughter and granddaughter.
Mr. Cross was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1995; his parents; a twin brother, Ray Cross, a brother, Jimmy Cross, and by one sister, Sue Jane McPhail.
He is loving survived by his daughter, Katie Cross Tipton and husband, Robert of Duncan, Oklahoma; his granddaughter, Georganna Tipton Lujin and husband Trent of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Doris Collins of Roswell, New Mexico, LaDell Woodworth of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Theola Leenhouts of Oklahoma City; 9 nieces and nephews; and many many friends.
Services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims.
The family will receive guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm, Wednesday evening.
Memorials can be made in Roy Cross"s name to the Wilbarger Humane Shelter in Vernon, Texas.
