Obituary for Rufus Edwin Thomason
R.E. (Edwin) Thomason, 85, lifetime Eldorado resident passed away Friday, October 8, 2010, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born November 4, 1924, in Eldorado, Oklahoma to George Dewey and Vernie (Wesley) Thomason. R.E. was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served in Italy during World War II. He married Jeannetta Spencer in Eldorado on November 26, 1946. He began farming at a very young age and spent over 57 years as a Custom Harvester. R.E. attained many good friends, both from the people that worked for him and his customers across the United States. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He went out of his way to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by the many family and friends left behind.
R.E. was a member of the Eldorado Methodist Church. He was very active in his community having served both as a City Councilman and as Mayor of Eldorado. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and had been a member of the Lion"s Club.
Mr. Thomason was preceded in death by his father, George Dewey Thomason, mother, Vernie (Wesley) Thomason; step-mother, Mary Irene (Cleere) Thomason; and by two brothers, W.R. Thomason and Lloyd Thomason.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jeannetta of the home in Eldorado; three children, Elaine and Kenneth Gunkel of Lawton, Oklahoma, Mike and Mary Thomason of Eldorado and Kim and John Henderson, also of Eldorado; one sister, Opal Laverne Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Donald Thomason of Altus, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Grant Gunkel, Greg Gunkel, Chad Thomason, Casey Thomason Smith, Ashley Henderson Mueller and Travis Henderson; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:30 am, Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Eldorado Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Jones, and Bill Osborne officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at the Lowell-Tims Chapel in Eldorado.

Memorials may be made in R.E. (Edwin) Thomason"s name to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
