Obituary for Ruth Evelyn McNeeley
Evelyn McNeeley was born Ruth Evelyn McWhorter on September 3rd, 1910, on a farm north of Blair, Oklahoma, and died May 12, 2002 in Oklahoma City.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and widow of Julian Francis (J.F.) McNeeley. Evelyn attended Blair schools from grade school through high school, then Oklahoma A&M, now known as OSU, where she majored in Home Economics and minored in English. She was on the Dean's Distinguished List of Students, a member of the literary sorority, Chi Delta Phi, and the Christian sorority, Pi Epsilon Alpha. Evelyn received her teaching certificate in May 1931. In 1932, Evelyn began teaching 7th grade English at the Blair School. During her 40+ teaching years, she taught in Blair, Headrick, Ozark, Glenpool, Jefferson, Warren, Ft. Cobb, McCloud, Martha and Altus, Oklahoma. She taught junior high English in Altus from 1956 to 1973 when she retired. Evelyn and J. F. were married August 27,1937 in Blair, Oklahoma; they had one son, Julian Paul McNeeley. J.F. was a teacher and coach for many years until he began wheat farming south of Altus in 1951. Evelyn was active in the First United Methodist Church of Altus, the United Methodist Women and the Altus Garden Club. After her husbands death in 1980, Evelyn moved to Oklahoma City in 1985 to be near her son. She led a full Christian life and was loved by many. Evelyn was independent and sometimes stubborn but always kind, gentle, caring, patient, appreciative and polite. Evelyn was truly a woman to admire and a wonderful person; she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, Roland Orlando McWhorter and Mary Rebecca Meek; her husband; brothers, Burrow David McWhorter, John Roland McWhorter, Paul McWhorter; sisters, Ruby Hawkins and Madge Jones.
