Samuel Glenn Abbott was born November 2, 1940 in Ringold, Oklahoma, to Charlie and Mary (James) Abbott. He departed this life on March 9, 2005 at his home in Altus, Oklahoma.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 19, 2005 at the Old Ringold Cemetery. Brother Randy Atkins will officiate.

Sam was 64 years of age. He was a 1959 graduate of Rattan High School in Rattan, Oklahoma.

Sam was inducted into the United States Army on September 24, 1963. While doing two years of active duty he was stationed at the U.S. Army Personnel Center in Oakland, California. During this time he did a tour in South Korea for ten months and eighteen days. Sam was a heavy vehicle driver and earned the marksman (Rifle M-14) badge. He was released from active duty on August 26, 1965. He was then transferred to the Army Reserves until being honorably discharged on September 23, 1969 at the rank of Sp4-E4.For many years Sam drove a semi-truck across country. But his greatest passion was country music. He loved playing his guitar and singing with his brothers. At various times in Sam's life he was also a member of a band.

He married W. Gale Lord in Reno Nevada.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife Gale Lord, his father and mother,
Charlie and Mary Abbott, a brother Charlie "Jr" Abbott, and two sisters Willie Belle Tuck and Naomi Ruth Abbott.

Mr Abbott is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ladonna and Kevin Johnson of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jesse and Kalle Johnson; three brothers and two sister-in-laws, David and Suzanne Abbott, Mt. Shasta, California, Jimmy and Mary Abbott, Frazier Park, California, Bill Abbott, Stonewall, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
