Graveside service for Samuel Richard Surles, 84, Olustee, Oklahoma will be at the Hess Cemetery, Hess, Oklahoma on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with military honors under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Mr Surels passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 in an Weatherford, Oklahoma Nursing Home.
Samuel Richard Surles was born to Jessie D. and Ella (Bennett) Surles in Mesquite, Texas on February 3, 1931. Sam attended schools in Texas and Altus, OK and played football during his High School years. He served in the U.S. Army during the 1950’s. He married Barbara Ann Ford on February 25, 1980 and they spent 32 years together before she passed away in 2012. He worked for Wal-Mart for 15 years before helping Barbara run their daycare out of their home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Olustee. Sam was a laid back man who loved children and yardwork.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Barbara (Ford) Surles; three sisters, Margaret Walls, Donnie Womack and Nola Trussler and two brothers, Jessie Dock and Billy Joe Surles.
Survivors include three children, Cullin Davis Jr., Joyce Ann Sury and Denise Williams; seven grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three brothers; John Surles and wife Alice, Moody Surles and Ray Surles and wife Joyce; two sisters Jo Ann and Jerry Walls and Addie Scott and many other relatives and friends.
