Obituary for Sandra Joe Tiernan
Sandra Joe Tiernan, long time resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away at the age of 82.
Sandra was born October 5, 1940 in Altus, Oklahoma to Adron Wilson Thomas and Gertie Lee (Cain) Thomas. Here, she grew up and attended school until she graduated. Soon after high school, she married her love, James Lee Tiernan. They were married until his passing on March 16, 2009. In the years of their marriage, they had two children; James Robert Tiernan and Wendy Y. Mills.
Sandra was a hard worker. She worked at the Altus House Nursing Home for 30 years until her retirement in February 2006. Here, she did what she loved, helping as many people as she could. Sandra was also an enduring and faithful Jehovah Witness for over 50 years, and she had that unshakable hope in the resurrection. A scripture she held close to her heart was Acts 24:15, “And I have hope towards God, which these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.†As well as John 5:28,29. This verse refers to the resurrection. She will be missed every day until Jehovah brings her back. She is still alive to God.
In her free time Sandra had many hobbies. She enjoyed playing card and board games along with jigsaw puzzles. Her main love was helping people to enjoy the Bible, to learn what God’s kingdom is truly going to do for mankind. God’s word was a most precious treasure to her. Every day she would find a gem of truth, learning about Jehovah God.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Lee Tiernan, son James Robert Tiernan, brother Robert G. Thomas, and sisters Julia Ann Loper and Billie Joyce Azlin. She is survived by her daughter Wendy Y. Mills, grandchildren James Michael Tiernan and Starla C. Doughten, great grandchildren Luna Doughten, Chase Tiernan, and Mary Ann Tiernan, as well as nieces, nephews, and many other great family and friends.
