Sarah Ann Gibbons Garton
Sarah Ann (Gibbons) Garton, 82-year-old resident of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
Sarah was born on December 13, 1938, in Hollis, Oklahoma to Woodrow and Louise Baird Gibbons. She graduated from Gould High School in 1958 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Sarah received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from West Texas A&M University.
Sarah married Max Dodson Garton at the Gould Church of Christ on September 8, 1962. Her teaching career included schools at Dumas and Pampa, Texas retiring in 1999. Sarah belonged to several organizations: Delta Kappa Gamma, DAR, and Amarillo Retired Teachers, to name a few.
One of her favorite hobbies was working on the computer and doing extensive work on the family history as early as 1993. Sarah was an avid reader and had a love for history. She also enjoyed her sewing skills on the sewing machine as well as needlework.
Max and Sarah were faithful members of the Church of Christ and worked with the World Bible School for many years at Bell Avenue Church of Christ. They also enjoyed traveling extensively in the U.S. and abroad during their retirement years.
Sarah was preceded in death by her loving husband, Max D. Garton, parents, Woodrow and Louise Baird Gibbons; and her brother, Woody Dean Gibbons.
She is survived by her brother, James Coy Gibbons; one sister, Nita Parker (Max); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., August 26, 2021 at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
