Obituary for Scott Wayne McAlpine

Scott Wayne McAlpine, a longtime resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and an unwavering love for life’s simple joys.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Billy Jean McAlpine and Edith Margaret “Margie” (Hubanks) McAlpine, Scott grew up with a deep connection to family—especially his grandparents, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. A proud graduate of John Jay High School in 1975, he later served in the U.S. Navy before receiving a medical discharge after two years of service.

Scott had a heart full of passion and a spirit that thrived on bringing old things back to life. He adored junk cars, seeing beauty where others saw rust, and took pride in transforming the most forgotten vehicles into something extraordinary. A true collector at heart, he cherished his trains, wheat pennies and coins, and an impressive array of Elvis Presley memorabilia. His love for the King even led him on an Elvis-themed cruise, where he delighted in singing karaoke and spreading joy to everyone around him.

A man out of time, Scott often joked that he should have been born in the 1950s. He embraced the era’s music, cars, and nostalgia, living life with a playful charm that made him unforgettable.

In 2003, Scott returned to Hollis to be closer to his extended family and dedicated himself to caring for others as an LPN at Harmon County Memorial Hospital. Before that, he had spent years as an LVN at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, where his gentle nature and compassion touched countless lives.

Scott was a kind, loving soul who always put others first. His humor, generosity, and warm presence made him a beloved friend, brother, uncle, and caregiver. Though he faced loss in his life—including the passing of his parents, brothers, James “Butch” and Larry McAlpine, his dear girlfriend Darlene Hoover, and his beloved daughter, Krystal Denise Hoover—his legacy of love lives on through those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving family: Sisters, Sherry Douvry and husband Frank “Rip”, Lisa DaLuz husband Robert; brother, Ross McAlpine and wife Alice; and many cherished nieces and nephews—Susan Davis, Billy McAlpine, David Boyd, Marty Douvry, Brad DaLuz, Brittany DaLuz, Bobby Picasso, James McAlpine, Bruce McAlpine, and Isabel Alvarez. Also surviving Scott are numerous great nieces and nephews, countless cousins and other extended family members.

Scott’s gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and joyful heart will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever shine brightly in the lives of those he touched.

The McAlpine family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday May 5, 2025, at Harmon County Funeral Home Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Number Two Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
